WOMEN IN SCIENCE

International Women's Day is coming, in this context I wanted to write a few lines about women in science.

The problems that women face in terms of empowerment from their homes, from their workplaces, political, educational, in virtually all areas, also face in science, where it presents several challenges from their undergraduate to postgraduate and research.

Currently there is a special interest in learning diagnostic context in which the woman works and develops in the scientific and technological field. It is not unknown that women have little involvement in this area, and it is important and interesting to look at what is this?, Why are there so few students in scientific careers? Why do I exist in postgraduate students less women?

Perhaps it could be considered that one of the factors that influences the low fémina enrollment racing sciences, mainly mathematics and physics is that young students suffer from a lack of female role models in science and technology, which allow them to break down cultural barriers. For these students must present a social challenge, the cultural, the context in which they were raised and developed. Postgraduate studies include low enrollment, women of reproductive age, the age of marriage (obviously marked by the social "rules"), it's just the age that they should take advantage of to make their graduate studies. Also elderly care influences that women do not continue their studies.

As for those who are already investigating, a study presented in the book Latin America [1], they show the difficulties and previous barriers to entry of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT), unlike other countries, not by being a woman means more effort for you enter your system researchers. Staying in the SNI and reach other levels (finding a lower percentage of females in levels II and III given delivery required to consolidate these), required by some data that women are 2.2 times more productive than the male.

Globally, the issues related to science and technology and higher education are on the agenda of the discussion to be considered as strategic elements in developing countries. It is however important challenge facing businesses and institutions to give timely response to the growing needs in the context of competitive dynamics, as well as generate and disseminate scientific and technological knowledge and business have the interest and ability to absorb these resources. PS An apology for not posting photos, in reality there are no pictures of women in science available on the network, which also makes it necessary to address such situations.
